Day 3 – Goodbye New York! Hellooo D.C.!

April 30, 2008 · 2 Comments

We arose early this morning to find a beautiful (but still chilly) sunny day! We headed over to Penn Station and boarded a bus which drove us down to D.C. We’re staying at a very nice and fairly-new Four Points Sheraton Hotel (courtesy of Priceline.com).

Tonight we’re heading to a Moonlight Tour of D.C.’s monuments. I’ll post pics soon!

…and here they are! (11:45 p.m.):

Day 1 – New York!

April 29, 2008 · Leave a Comment

We had a wonderful First Day in New York! It’s now 8:46pm, and we are both EXHAUSTED!!! We started the day with some yummy grub at a nearby breakfast shop down the street. Hung out with our friend Apurva for a while, then headed out to paint the town.

  1. Chinatown. What an amazing Chinatown! We walked around and around and around. We tried to find a dumpling shop (that received a TON of great reviews online), but it had been replaced by another restaurant. So we gave it a try–noodles and shui jiaos. Yum!
  2. RAIN! It rained ALL DAY! My feet were soaked! Luckily, Tim bought me some super cute (and super on sale) rain boots that I wore for the rest of the day. (you’ll see them in some of the pics below–only $20 bucks).
  3. Walked through Little Italy. Then on our way to our next destination, we stopped by an Indian restaurant (Bengle and Kabob…also received good reviews online) and ordered some Saag and Lamb. It was … OK. :P Nothing else to say about that.
  4. Soho. We walked through the Soho district. It was cool to see all the different designer shops. Tim SWEARS that he saw the designer of People’s Republic (featured recently on MTV’s THE HILLS). She looked at us funny because we were staring at her from afar. :P woops!
  5. World Trade Center. We stopped by to see ground zero.
  6. Statue of Liberty. Tim had actually bought our tickets for 3pm, but because we arrived at the dock early, we decided to site-see early. We hopped on the fairy, ran over to the statue, snapped some pics, then ran back to the ferry before it left (usually, the ferry drops off a group, then picks up the previous group… then another ferry comes to drop off a group, then pick up the previous group…). Well, we just ran off and on, and was able to complete our “tour” fairly quickly. We also ran around Ellis Island for a bit. Unfortunately because of the rain, the skyline was quite cloudy and overcast, so no spectacular pictures from that.
  7. Wall Street. We went and walked around the Financial District…saw the Merril Lynch (sp?) building, the Trump Building, the New York Stock Exchange…. etc. Quite interesting!
  8. Found another chinese restaurant and ate some AMAZING gan cao niu he… the staff there were a bit rude (and were a bit bitter about accepting our Amex card, even though they had a sign up saying they accepted amex).
  9. Bryant Park. Checked out the park where there are many fashion shows and Project Runway challenges.
  10. Public Library. I really really had to pee, so we stopped by the library (right next door to Bryant Park). Boy, are we glad we did! It had some of the most Beautiful architecture I have EVER seen!!! Breathtaking! Marble EVERYWHERE, and paintings up the wazoo!
  11. Empire State Building. We almost missed it. We thought ANOTHER random building was the ESB, but later (luckily) discovered we were wrong. Because it was so cloudy, we didn’t go up.
  12. Copper Chimney. Apurva recommended a great Indian restaurant to us, so we went for dinner. It was SO GOOD!!!!!!!! We ordered Aloo Gobi and a new dish (that we have never had), eggplant in peanut sauce. MMMMMMMM!!! Loved it!
  13. Time Square. To end our night, we walked to Time Square. It was so cool to see! I think I was expecting the rest of NY to look like Time Square, but it didn’t. After getting used to the “normal” look of the city, I almost felt like Time Square was “over the top.” (The picture that is first above should actually go at the END of the gallery…it’s Tim yawning…showing us how TIRED we both were!!!).

Needless to say, we are having a BLAST!! Aside from the crazy times when I really need to pee, but can’t find a bathroom… things are going very well. We are SO tired… it reminds me much of my first weeks on island (on my mission) when I was so tired, but just had to keep going. It’s so fun to see all the cute little botique shops… ONE DAY I’ll come back and buy some really cute stuff, but right now i just don’t have any room! :( hehe, except for my new rain boots.
